Paul Sedge's 2008 Report:
The 6th annual charity darts golf day took place again at Maylands
Golf and Country club on the 8th of September. The day started well
with the weather forecast showing we should dodge the rain, and this
proved to be correct. 28 Players & Guests took part in the event,
which was a slightly different format from previous years, as we
only played 18 holes, with a blind pairs draw, due to the rising
costs.
There were some excellent scores again from lots of players, in the
Stapleford competition, this year with only 3 people playing above
their handicap, and again some of the members of Maylands struggled,
including myself, although I was playing off 9, so reasonably happy.
The eventual winner came in with 45 points, playing off 28. The
results were as follows: Winner was Graham Deans (28) 45 points;
runner-up was Doug Gerrard (17) 40 points; 3rd was Dean Willsher
(26) 38 points. All these players have been cut for the next event,
with Graham, being slashed to 16, Doug 12 and Dean to 24.
Glen Ward, won the Wooden Spoon with 17 points, closely beating Phil
Daldry with 18. Glen received a bucket and spade, as he certainly
spent most of the day in and out of bunkers.
Longest Drive was won by Barry Edwards, with new boy Steve Sparks
picking the Nearest the Pin. In the blind pairs, our winner and
runner up, Graham Deans and Doug Gerrard, were drawn together,
obviously winning by far, with a massive 85 points, the runners up
were Brian Rawlinson and Martin Goode with 61.
Once the golf was complete it was back to the bar for lunch, the
presentation and a raffle. This raised a excellent £125 extra for
the Heart of Darts. I would like to thank my wife, Brenda for
bullying everyone into the raffle and helping on the day. The total
to be paid to the Charity this year is £321.
Special Thanks to our Sponsors: The Ingatestone & District Dart
League for the trophies & Matt Mason of Mason’s Restaurants’ who
donated a Meal for 2 for the raffle. A big thank you to everyone
involved in the event.
I am planning for the 2009 event and I hope the players who have
taken part, thus far, will join us again and maybe we can get a few
more, again. I will be looking at other possible venues date and
venue to be announced. |
