Brief:
Leigh is 26 years old and was born in Peterborough
(Cambridgeshire) where he grew-up and started playing darts. The first
league he played in was the Market Deeping Darts League. It wasn’t
long before he was performing in Cambridgeshire’s Super-league for
Peterborough at the Crab & Winkle, where he was a member of the 1992
Championship side that was captained by England captain, Martin Adams.
In 1993 Leigh played for the County team against Hampshire and
Yorkshire. He tells me that he lost both games, and he particularly
remembers the 5th leg against Yorkshire were he scored back
to back 140’s followed by three 26’s. In 1997, he moved to
Chelmsford, and had a season in the Chelmsford & District league
before joining the Red Lion ‘A’ team from High Ongar in the
Ingatestone & District league. Leigh help them win promotion to the
first division in his first season and has won back to back League and
Cup doubles, plus a Summer League title. Individually, Leigh won the
Alfred Candler Memorial Cup at his first attempt, however, couldn’t
defend his title due to not having a fixture book with him when booking
a holiday. Leigh played in the Essex Super-league this season, were he
was the team secretary of Ongar (& chief sandwich maker) and
qualified for the Champions of Champions. Leigh loves his darts and
enjoys the Vauxhall Weekend’s each year with all his mates, and
although Leigh has moved to Colchester, he is remaining at Ongar for
next season.
