The 1988/89
season was my first season as Secretary of the
League! Highest Checkout Award & Player of the Season Award introduced! The season started with 14 teams registering; only 13 teams started with the Crown withdrawing! League Format was 5 x Pairs 501 and 10 x Singles 401 all 1-Leg Two points awarded to winning team The Victoria A (Writtle) won the League title The Robin Hood (Brentwood) retained the Fargo Cup The Victoria B (Writtle) won the Hatcher Cup Derek Lodge (Prince Albert) won the Honeyball Cup (Singles KO) for a 3rd time (also in 1976 & 1977) Steve Carlile & Geoff Course (Baddow Social) won the Passfield Cup (Pairs KO) Ian Williams (Alexandra) won the Royal Steamer Cup (Captains KO) Dennis Gisby (Victoria A) won the Spread Eagle Cup (Secretaries KO) Bill Pinkney (Warley Stars) won the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup (Landlords KO) Derek Lodge (Prince Albert) is the recipient of the Simms Shield (A Special Award to recognize a players contribution to the league) Peter Deed (Robin Hood) won the Dibble Shield after a 9-Dart Shoot-out Geoff Course (Baddow SC) is the 1st winner of the Brook Shield with a 160 finish Ian Williams (Alexandra) is the 1st Player to receive the Player of the Season Award A total of 243 players played! |
