A LOOK BACK AT THE HISTORY OF THE ALFRED CANDLER MEMORIAL CUP

Alfred Candler was a founder member of the league, playing from Viper in Mill Green at the start in 1948.  In 1986, Alf took over as Chairman of the league.  It was with great sadness that during the 1989/90 season, Alf past away, leaving everyone with great memories of a man that loved Darts and the Ingatestone League.  It was proposed and agreed that a new open singles competition will be run annually in Alf's name and with over 200 pounds donated from teams, both a winners and runner-up perpetual trophies were purchased at a total cost of 242 pounds.  In April 1991 saw 109 players enter the first ever draw with the players split into 16 groups over 3-weeks to qualify for a best of 5-leg final on Finals Night on stage at the Ingatestone Community Centre. Paul Doherty won that first title with a 3-0 win over Peter Colvin. John Costigan is the latest winner in the 28 competitions to date!
